Skylight Installation Specialists in Chicago, IL

Have you seen HGTV’s Windy City Rehab: Alison’s Dream Home? If so, you must have seen

the stunning skylights that were added to the project. We are thrilled to share that NSS

Exteriors had the honor of being chosen by Alison as the Skylight Specialists for this remarkable

endeavor. our owner, Paul, and our dedicated Project Manager, Brad, made their television

debuts during the very first episode, showcasing our expertise and commitment to excellence.

While NSS Exteriors primarily specializes in commercial skylights, this project presented a

unique opportunity to transform a commercial space into an extraordinary home. Alison faced

the challenge of working within a tight budget, and we were delighted to collaborate with her to

provide skylights that not only radiate beauty and functionality but also fit comfortably within her

financial constraints.

For Alison's Dream Home, we installed six gorgeous Wasco Pyramid Skylights. These skylights,

with their elegant design, ushered a flood of natural light into the living space. This was

particularly vital, given that the building originally lacked an abundance of windows due to its

former commercial purpose.

We extend our deepest gratitude to Alison Victoria and the remarkable team at Windy City

Rehab for entrusting NSS Exteriors with your home. It was an honor to be part of this project,

and we sincerely hope that you relish your new space and the enchanting skylights for

countless years to come.

Imagine you have a cut that requires stitches, and you're faced with a choice: you can either have a medical student who has stitched a few injuries, or you can opt for the highly experienced plastic surgeon with years of expertise. In most cases, people would understandably choose the specialist—the surgeon—who possesses the skills and knowledge to ensure the job is done correctly and efficiently. That's precisely the difference between most roofers and NSS Exteriors. While many roofers may offer general roofing services, NSS Exteriors specializes in skylights. We are experts in our field, with a deep understanding of the intricacies and nuances involved in skylight installation, repair, and maintenance. Choosing NSS Exteriors means entrusting your skylight project to a team dedicated to excellence and backed by years of specialized experience and proficiency. With over 50 years in the business, rest assured that we'll continue to be here in the future to assist you should any issues arise.

As you diligently research companies to install a Velux skylight for your home or business, you may encounter terms like "Velux Certified Installer" and "Velux Skylight Specialist." It's easy to assume that a Skylight Specialist would be the superior choice, but that's not always the case. When it comes to these Velux installer titles, the key distinction lies in the percentage of work dedicated to installing Velux products. A Skylight Specialist or Signature Skylight Specialist company commits to a high percentage of their work involving the selling and installation of Velux products. However, if you examine Velux's website, you'll notice that there aren't many Velux Skylight Specialists. Most companies working with Velux are Velux Certified Installers. VELUX describes a Certified Installer as "a company that focuses on a variety of products as well as VELUX products. This company will have completed VELUX's certification program and will have sufficient knowledge to assist customers in VELUX projects."

Oh no! A leak. You've just noticed a dreaded drip from your skylight. But wait, before you panic, let's consider that it might not necessarily be a leak. Especially if it's cold outside, there's a possibility that what you're experiencing is condensation. Think about that cold can of pop you take out of the fridge on a hot day. After a few minutes, moisture starts to collect on the outside of the can. That's condensation in action. The same principle applies to your windows and skylight. When the relative humidity in the air is too high for the outdoor temperature, condensation forms. So, first things first, check the humidity levels in your space. If it's higher than the recommended amount, consider using a dehumidifier to reduce the moisture in the air. If your humidity is within range or if the drip persists even after using a dehumidifier, then it's time to have your skylight looked at by a professional.
